Sa Calobra

The Tramuntana cove at the end of Mallorca's most theatrical road — twelve kilometres of switchbacks, including a 360° loop that ties itself in a knot. Walk through two tunnels carved in the rock and the cliffs open onto deep, cold water.

Mallora’s take

The drive in is the attraction as much as the beach — 12 km of switchbacks off the MA-10, including the famous "knotted tie" 360° loop. At the bottom, walk through two short tunnels carved into the rock to reach Torrent de Pareis, a pebble cove between two cliff walls. The water is deep and cold; the beach itself is small and crowded by midday.

Good to know

Drive in early or take the boat from Port de Sóller — the road is single-lane in places and tour buses dominate it from late morning onwards. Bring cash for parking; there are a couple of cafés at the bottom but no real village.
