Carthusian Monastery Valldemossa

Valldemossa's Carthusian monastery, where Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838 in a stone cell that everyone comes to see. Stay for the short piano recital — fifteen minutes that most visitors remember longer than the cloister itself. Climb the tower for rooftops spilling down the valley.

Mallora’s take

The ticket covers the palace of King Sancho, church, cloister, museums, gardens, and a short Chopin piano recital — the cell where Chopin and George Sand stayed in the winter of 1838 is the headline, the tower climb is the payoff. The 15–20 minute piano concert is what most people remember; the tower viewpoint over Valldemossa rooftops is worth the extra ticket. Some rooms are occasionally closed off, and a few visitors find the entrance price steep for what's inside — go in for the Chopin connection, not a full afternoon.

Good to know

Parking by the monastery is tight — follow the signs into town or you'll end up funnelled into the pedestrian zone. Closed Sundays, and Saturday hours end at 4pm instead of 5pm. Tower entrance is a separate ticket from the main complex.
