Santuari de Sant Salvador
Artà's hilltop fortress-church, reached by 180 stone steps cut as a Via Crucis up from the town. Go at first light before the heat lands, walk the full perimeter of the ramparts, and find the wooden Virgin inside — one of the oldest carvings on the island.

The climb is the Via Crucis — roughly 180 stone steps with Stations of the Cross from the edge of Artà up to the fortress. Path is paved, no special shoes needed, but in July heat it's brutal — go early or skip it and drive up to the top car park. Inside the church: ceiling paintings, side altars, and the wooden Virgin of Sant Salvador, one of the oldest surviving wood carvings on the island. Walk the full perimeter of the fortress walls for the best angles over the town and inland plain.
Good to know
Entry to the grounds and ramparts is free; the church nave costs €2. Driveable to the top if you don't want the stairs, but not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers beyond the entrance.
